Events in Broadstairs Kent

Broadstairs Events accommodates many types of visitors throughout the year. Events in Broadstairs are some of the most highly anticipated in the whole of Kent. Broadstairs is the place where many events take place year on year.

Charles Dickens visited Broadstairs in Kent regularly from 1837 until 1859 and immortalised the town as”Our English Watering Place”.

In 1937, to commemorate the centenary of the author’s first visit, Gladys Waterer, the then owner of Dickens House, conceived the idea of putting on a production of David Copperfield and of having people about the town in Victorian dress to publicise it. Thus the festival was born and, with the exception of the years of World War 2, has been held annually in the third week of June ever since.

Probably the most important event in the whole of the Broadstairs social calendar.

The festival includes a Torchlight Procession, live music, morris dancing numerous live bands and much much more.

Every year the traditional seaside fun and games for all the family returns to Broadstairs for the town’s annual water gala.

One of the oldest summer attractions in the UK, it has run for more than 120 years, with organisers promising a range of fun activities. The event includes a swimming race, a tug of war and many more fun and games. There will also be craft stalls and a family fun fair in Victoria Gardens, with bandstand entertainment during the day and live music at night.

The festivities traditionally finish with a firework finale over Viking Bay at 10pm.

The Broadstairs Food Festival has now firmly become one of Thanet’s most eagerly anticipated events of the season. The festival is a 3 day Food Fayre on Victoria Gardens on the Broadstairs Promenade.
